[KidzMash] A Kid's introduction to 3D Modeling

Time: Thursday, Jan. 10, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This second session is targeted at children who have completed our Kid’s world of 3d printing session+. We will attempt to walk the attendees through the process of building a basic model on a professional CAD program (Rhino3d) from geometric shapes. We will explain the XYZ coordinate system, and what the different views are for. We will also spend some time playing with the transform functions. This session is best for kids with basic skills in measurement, elementary level geometry, and basic computer skills. Probably most appropriate for children over 8 but all are welcome based on your child’s capabilities and ability to enjoy. The goal of the session will be creating a cup, then after that, possibly a keychain. Traditionally all sessions have completed at least one project, and some have done two. This level of success is greatly dependent on the assistance of the parents in attendance as we can’t supervise every screen fully. We will be doing this on the big screen and those at CAD stations or their own PC are welcome to follow along and make their own versions! (software requires PC/MAC, there is no Chromebook version, but we should have lab PC’s again this year) Less confident or younger kids are welcome to pair up and just watch. Older kids that complete the kid projects without issue are welcome in the adult walkthrough lab as they will be making more slightly advanced models that are different. PLEASE NOTE: A kid’s lab will follow morning sessions where kids can possibly print items or make others. There is also open lab in the late afternoon. We will be able to produce screen renders of all models kids would like to, and can print possibly one model per kid depending on demand.
