[KidzMash] So, You Want to Be a Game Designer? – A Board Game Jam

Presented by: Matt Perrin
Time: Thursday, Jan. 10, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Have you ever been curious about how to design a game? Or maybe you would like to make games when you grow up? If yes, then here's your chance to learn about how to take your ideas, discover what makes them "fun", and work in teams to create a board game prototype in just a couple of hours. In this KidzMash Divez session, participants will learn the basic principles of game design and development by collaborating in a board game jam. Game jams are quick exercises to experiment with ideas and build a playable board game prototype. Participants will work in teams to brainstorm their games before they create the rules, artwork, and playing pieces for their prototype based on a common theme. As they work together, attendees will experience how development teams are structured, learn about play-testing and iterating on ideas, and setting achievable project goals. The overall experience will be a friendly, guided introduction into the steps for developing an idea into a product within the context of creating a physical board game. Limit: 30 participants, ages 12 – 17, materials will be supplied, no electronics necessary.
