From idea to physical: A demo of how to make a CAD model, slice it and print

Time: Thursday, Jan. 10, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This lab is intended to be a fast-paced technology walk-through of the process of creating a 3D printed object. We will focus in on the process of using CAD to create our model with a NURBS modeler called Rhino3D and will walk through and create up to three basic models: a goblet, a challenge coin, and a spaceship model. We will also look at some completed models that were created for 3d printing and discuss what one should consider when making a successful printable model. We will discuss scaling, splitting, tolerances and other final model steps in Rhino3D, as well as converting to a stereo lithography file the slicer program (Cura) can read. We’ll discuss the various settings in CURA and how to set up the G-CODE file that the printer will use.

Room: Guava / Tamarind
