KidzMash: Human 3D Printer: a social STEM learning experiment

Time: Tuesday, Jan. 07, 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM

After a brief overview where we explain what the teams will do, we will be dividing into 3 teams. A CAD team, a SLICER team, and a 3D printer team. The teams will try to manually replicate with the team each piece of the 3D object development and replication process! The CAD team will model the shape on graph paper. The Slicer team will figure out how to build the model and convert it to numbered “human gcode” instructions on 3X5 cards and the 3Dprinter team will try to execute those instructions on a grid representing a printer bed with a 3D doodler hand-held extrusion pen! We’ll start by doing 2D shapes and as the teams get going we’ll try to make a basic 3D shape! This session hopes to explain how the process works at a basic level. This is an experiment involving discovery and teamwork and is probably most appropriate for children with basic measurement and writing skills although we will try to accommodate non-disruptive children of any age.
